COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER

The mandate of Accommodation Information and Support (AIS) Inc. is to provide safe, affordable and permanent housing with support to people with long-term mental health challenges who have experienced homelessness.
AIS is a unionized workplace.
Responsibilities: Working from a Recovery Model of client centred service, the Community Support Worker will engage in needs assessments, crisis prevention, conflict mediation, advocacy and supportive counseling. A harm reduction approach to substance use will be used in the Identification and resolution of individual and community issues. The CSW will identify barriers to independent functioning of clients and take appropriate action; encourage tenants to be involved in their housing, community events and in the larger organization.
Qualifications: A degree/diploma in Counseling, Social Services Work, Case Management or related Human Services, and minimum of 3 years relevant experience; a solid understanding of the issues facing poor people with mental health challenges who may have experienced homelessness; knowledge of trauma related behaviors and addictions with strong advocacy skills. Must work well under pressure and have excellent problem solving skills and work from a client-centered framework. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Starting salary: $ 52, 887.81—56,793.81
